The demand for stylish city living near to the heart of London has never been greater and this continued appeal has seen many derelict sites being redeveloped into attractive and affordable residential and leisure complexes.

One of the most exciting recent redevelopments has seen the plot of the former Catford Greyhound Stadium in Lewisham, South East London, be transformed into affordable one, two and three bedroom apartments. Catford Green is a leafy development on the cusp of the 54 acre Ladywell Fields, making the area a real oasis of tranquillity in this popular London suburb, despite being less than half an hour way from Canary Wharf.

Brickwork expertise from SIG Distribution Ruislip

As with most inner city redevelopments, the challenge with Catford Green was to create desirable quality housing which is affordable to buyers whilst making the most of the land available where space is at a premium. Barratt Homes, the main contractor for the project, looked to the masonry experts at SIG Distribution Ruislip for support on the build. David Gray, Internal Sales, and Terry Dovener, Business Development Manager, were key in providing the contractor with advice on this project.

Terry explains how SIG Distribution Ruislip supported the contractor, “We provided a full take off service for the project which saved time and money for the contractor as this service would usually be done by a third party. I visited the site myself and was provided with drawings and specifications from the contractor which meant I could then work out what was needed on the full project and provide quantities and quotations for the site. This resulted in SIG Distribution providing a number of products to the build including wall ties, insulation and damp proofing.”

Warehouse storage for timed deliveries

Working so closely with the contractor meant that they could take advantage of the warehouse facilities at SIG Distribution Ruislip, Terry comments, “Due to size of the project and stock needed, the contractors took advantage of our warehouse so we prepared the stock in advance and made sure it was all ready when needed. This meant we could deliver items to the schedule of the contractor, providing a just-in-time delivery on site.”

The first phase of the project has recently been completed and Catford Green is proving to be a real success with buyers, as 94% of the properties available were sold in justseven months.
